Kenya: New CBA brings gains for hotel, restaurant, catering and tourism workers
A new two-year collective agreement between the IUF-affiliated KUDHEIHA and the
Kenya Hotelkeepers and Caterers Association (KHCA) brings important gains for workers in some 180 catering, hotel and restaurant establishments and safari clubs, lodges and camps.
Among other features, the agreement establishes a dispute resolution body comprising equal numbers of union and employer representatives which will meet on a regular monthly basis to address issues affecting the membership. A committee has been formed to address housing, particularly with an eye to ensuring decent housing for workers on game reserves and in national parks. An agreed percentage of the service charge will be paid into a joint KUDHEIHA/KHA earmarked to support training and dispute resolution. And the agreement brings wage increases of 10% and 8.5% over 1919/1920.
