A fair deal for dairy workers in Indonesia
Twenty three dairy workers representing local unions affiliated to the FSBMM met on October 6 in Pasuran, East Java.
Participants agreed that the workers’ rights in the IUF Dairy Division Charter should be applied in their workplaces.
They left the meeting determined to defend and uphold their rights by fighting precarious work.
The charter for dairy workers states that “workers should be permanent workers and restrictions on the use of insecure work should be negotiated through collective bargaining”.
The meeting also resolved to fight for more women to be employed in the sector, to share information about wages and conditions applying in different companies and to push for higher wages through collective bargaining.
