Faced with a deadlock in collective bargaining, the workers of Cervecería del Valle-Bavaria, a subsidiary of the transnational company AB InBev, represented by IUF affiliate USTIAM, the Trade Union of Workers in the Brewing, Beverage, Food, Malting and Allied Workers’ Industries, began voting on September 18 on whether to strike.
- IUF affiliate USTIAM has strongly denounced the company’s decision to position guards at polling stations, a move that could discourage workers from voting
- USTIAM calls on the national and international workers’ movement for solidarity in the face of management pressure and intimidation aimed at obstructing their members’ exercise of their legitimate rights
IUF General Secretary Sue Longley stated, “Our IUF Latin America region will continue to closely monitor the situation, and both the region and the IUF stand in solidarity with workers and their union as they engage in their internationally recognized fundamental right to collective bargaining. Justice delayed is justice denied.”
