On November 18, IUF fast food affiliates from over a dozen countries on five continents met online to discuss ongoing issues across the sector including sexual harassment, oil burns, slip injuries, and excessive workload. As part of the IUF’s ongoing campaign to hold fast food corporations accountable for safe working conditions for all of their workers, we are proud to announce a Global Day of Action on December 2!
- The IUF 2021 Global Day of Action for Fast Food Workers will take place on December 2 under the banner “Fast Food Workers Deserve a safe workplace NOW!” with the two hashtags: #MakeMyWorkplaceSafe and #FastFoodGlobal
- The IUF welcomes the upcoming 2022 International Labour Conference discussion to make Occupational Health & Safety a fundamental principle and right at work; the working conditions in fast food are a clear example of why we need OHS as a fundamental right
- While the fast food sector has continuously grown for the last 50 years and even managed to turn a profit during the COVID-19 pandemic, workers are still refused safe and secure conditions
As Leshia Tonswend, a McDonald’s worker in Chicago, said, “It’s stressful working for a billion-dollar company when they’re not caring for the workers.”
