The IUF has signed two new agreements with the Spanish hotel chain RIU Hotels & Resorts covering union rights and sexual harassment.
- The rights agreement commits RIU to ensuring that workers are able to freely exercise their rights to unionize and bargain collectively in all RIU operations worldwide and provides for regular meetings with the IUF to monitor application
- The Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace agreement is the first global hospitality agreement built on the new International Labour Organization standard, Convention 190, on the elimination of gender-based violence and harassment in the world of work
- At the signing of the agreements, Carmen Riu, CEO of RIU Hotels & Resorts employing more than 24,000 workers in 24 countries, said, “We join forces in favour of people, because they are the ones behind and in front of everything that our brand stands for.”
- Spanish IUF affiliates CC.OO Servicios and FESMC UGT were present for the signing and are leading voices in the IUF Working Group on RIU that will work to enforce the new agreements across RIU’s portfolio of hotels
