After an intense period of international consolidation, the global breweries industry is now dominated by three major brewery companies: AB InBev, Heineken and Carlsberg.
However, global companies like Japan’s Asahi and Kirin as well Molson Coors and the Castel Group are increasingly challenging the global dominance of the “big three.”
Established in 2016, the IUF Brewery Division strengthens the work of affiliates in tackling the key issues and challenges in the sector. Effectively confronting these dominant global brewery companies is a key task of the IUF Brewery Division. The priorities of the division include: building strong international union organization within the major global companies; supporting affiliates in any and all union rights struggles in the sector; formulating joint demands across affiliates for their use in collective bargaining; demanding respect and global responsibility for trade union and workers’ rights; seeking global union recognition and increasing union membership in the brewery sector globally.
