On this International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), the IUF’s LGBTI Equality Resolution reminds us that “workers and their families who are Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) face discrimination, physical and mental abuse, and death for their sexual orientation and gender identity/gender expression.” As the world continues to struggle with COVID-19, we have seen how COVID-19 has disproportionately impacted the LGBTI community including the increase in domestic violence, and so we recommit ourselves to the fight against hate and violence against our sisters and brothers.
- Today the IUF, together with our sister global unions, is launching our LGBTI Solidarity Charter (in English, French, Spanish), our pledge to stand in solidarity with LGBTI workers who are our colleagues, family and friends; Global Unions believe in equal rights for every worker, no matter their sexual orientation, gender identity or sex characteristics
- The IUF stands with the International Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA World) in echoing its theme for IDAHOBIT 2021: “Together: Resisting, Supporting, Healing”
IUF Vice President and LGBTI & Allies Committee Chair Michele Kessler stated, “Today and everyday it’s so important for Union leaders and Union members to speak up with and for our LGBTI members and their families. An inclusive Union is a stronger one!”
