Independent Hong Kong unions rally for democracy

On February 1, the Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions (HKCTU) mobilized members to join in the first large scale pro-democracy rally following the police dismantling of the umbrella movement encampments. The HKCTU marched under a banner with the slogan “We only accept true democracy! Return our Dignity!” to join the public gathering, inviting workers and citizens to write their own democratic demands on the banner and distributing leaflets explaining the essential relation between democracy and the labour movement’s struggle for rights and decent livelihoods.
