IUF condemns death sentence on domestic worker in Saudi Arabia
Published: 14/12/2015
The IUF Africa Regional Committee, which met in Lome, Togo December 3-4, called on the government of Saudi Arabia to halt the planned execution of a Sri Lankan domestic worker sentenced to death on the spurious charge of ‘adultery’ earlier this year and to guarantee her immediate safe passage home. The IUF Administrative Committee, meeting in Geneva December 7-8, repeated the call and endorsed the resolution.
In response to global protest and the intervention of the Sri Lankan government, the Saudi government has since declared it will review the case. The sentence of death by stoning however currently stands. Click here for the full text of the resolution.
