NGG achieves important protections for migrant workers in Germany

The German parliament has passed new regulations following the failure of meat processing companies to protect worker’s rights within their sphere of operations.
As a result of campaigning by the IUF affiliate NGG, meat-processing employers must now assume liability for the actions of their subcontractors including the payment of social security contributions. They are also required to provide at their cost the clothing and tools needed for the work. Documentation requirements have been also tightened, with employers having to record the working time of their employees making it easier to enforce minimum wage and other entitlements.
Significant progress has been made and the NGG will continue to work to strengthen the rights of migrant workers in the meat sector.
