Philippines: PepsiCo Union files strike notice
PepsiCo Employees and Workers Union (PEWU) in the Philippines submitted a CBA proposal to the company on April 30, 2019. After seeing no progress in the collective bargaining negotiations the union decided to file a strike notice on June 14 at the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB).
In response to the union’s strike notice the NCMB scheduled a conciliation conference on September 10 and 11 which was attended by both parties. During the conference the union discussed its priority issues that include; noncompliance on the overtime and night differential correction, inclusion of Quality Assurance Analyst (QAA) positions in the union’s membership and health and hospitalization provisions.
Management did not agree to any progress at the mediation and asked to reschedule the conference to 23-27 September 2019. As there continued to be no progress in resolving these issues, the union decided to escalate the campaign to national level.
