A focus on workers’ rights at the Mondelez shareholders’ meeting
Over 200 trade unionists from IUF affiliates BCTGM and UFCW, along with other labour and community leaders, protested outside of the Mondelez shareholders’ meeting on May 15, 2019 delivering a clear message that people must come before profits. Representatives from the BCTGM again stressed inside the meeting the importance of engaging in good-faith dialogue with Mondelez workers and their unions locally, nationally and internationally as well as the importance of good-faith negotiations with BCTGM and the necessity for Mondelez to cease its attacks on North American workers’ healthcare and retirement security.
After the shareholders’ meeting, over 40 people protested at The Hatchery in Chicago accompanied by two billboard trucks with the message “Mondelez-Nabisco exploits workers in Mexico for 97 cents per hour.” The Hatchery is one of Mondelez’ most recent investments and part of the company’s SnackFutures innovation hub program.
