Despite the pandemic’s decimation of the hotel sector across Africa, our affiliates persevere and are organizing new workers into the union and campaigning for the right to a safe and healthy workplace.

  • In Guinea, IUF affiliate FHTRC-ONSLG won union elections at the Noom Hotel, an important 4-star hotel in the capital city and the second hotel to unionize following the successful election at the Sheraton Grand Conakry in 2020
  • The March ILO Governing Body accepted the complaint lodged by the IUF and FHTRC-ONSLG against the Government of Guinea for failing to protect the freedom of association and the health and safety of workers at the Sheraton Grand Conakry; the ILO will now establish a tripartite committee to examine the case

“We recognize the importance of our affiliations to the Federation of Hotels, Tourism, Catering and Related Industries (FHTRC), our national center ONSLG and the IUF, which enable us to act collectively, to defend the rights, both material and moral, of each member and to play an active role in the labor movement more broadly” said Mamadama Cissé, Chair of the Noom Hotel union.
