On International Lesbian Visibility Day, the IUF acknowledges all those lesbians who were forced to live lives that did not correspond to them for fear of harassment, reprisals and social repudiation. We also celebrate all those who fought to achieve the rights that the LGBTI collective enjoys today.
As the struggle continues, we also celebrate the improvements achieved for lesbians and for the LGTBI collective in many countries in recent years including marriage equality and adoption rights.
Gisele Adão, Vice Chair of the IUF LGBTI Workers & Allies Committee and member of the IUF Latin American Women’s Committee (Clamu), stated, “To be visible in truth is to say that we exist and persist in the struggle to be who we want to be, and to fight for our right to love freely. This international day is a day of reflection, action and struggle.”
