Swedish research shows how hotel housekeepers suffer from strain injuries

Out of 50 groups of female workers, hotel housekeepers are at the top of the list as regard the speed of upper arm movement, the greatest amount of bending forward of the back and the greatest strain on the lower arm.
Marie Birgersson of the Western Sweden Branch of the IUF affiliate HRF says it is worth noting “the fact is that the Department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the university of Lund which has carried out measurements of strain in fifty different jobs, and that hotel housekeepers come out at first place on three measures of strain and are close to the top on the others. It’s about time hotel owners take genuine responsibility for health and safety and begin preventing ill health and reducing work pace for hotel housekeepers.”
