The IUF affiliate Federation of Food Industry Workers (FTIA) has signed a new pay agreement with the Chamber of Commerce for food which, in total, will raise food workers’ wages by 41% in Argentina where inflation rates remain high.
- The agreement covers May 2020 – April 2021 and was reached after several meetings, mass demonstrations by FTIA members, including a large protest caravan on April 8th, in front of the Chamber of Commerce HQ in Buenos Aires. - The pay agreement covers all workers in the 244/94 collective bargaining agreement, which is FTIA’s largest and covers more than 80,000 workers throughout the country
- Joint negotiations will restart in May 2021 to set new basic agreements for May 2021 – April 2022
During the campaign, Héctor Morcillo, FTIA General Secretary, said, “We cannot allow that the adjustment variable continues to be wages. Wages must grow above inflation and that is our goal. And if they do not respond to our just demands, we will deepen the plan of struggle.”
