Challenging the disposable jobs regime – ILO publishes IUF on combatting precarious work
The mass destruction of direct, permanent employment constitutes a major threat to union membership, organizing and bargaining.
The ILO’s International Journal of Labour Research, in an issue devoted to precarious work, has published the IUF’s Establishing rights in the disposable jobs regime. The article, available in English, French and Spanish, examines the causes and consequences of the expansion of precarious employment, distills lessons from successful organizing by the IUF and its affiliates and points to the potential uses by trade unions of international human rights instruments to challenge and roll back casualization and rebuild union power.
