Employers walk away from wage bargaining in Argentina
Dairy employers in Argentina have suspended negotiations with IUF affiliate Atilra as the union works to renew the sector wide collective bargaining agreement.
The employers are refusing to advance discussions on a wage increase despite runaway inflation predicted to reach 40% this year. At a series of meetings, union members have made it clear that if the employers do not change their position, preparations for industrial action will commence.
The employers and the media are blaming the workers and their union for the current crisis but they are not responsible for political policies which result in brutal price increases in essential goods.
Members of Atilra turned out in force at mass combined union demonstrations on April 29 and May 1 to protest the policies of harsh economic adjustment and resulting layoffs and increased unemployment.
