Across all sectors, workers and unions face the daily reality of violence and harassment in the world of work. The 2019 International Labour Conference’s adoption of Convention 190 (C190) and Recommendation 206 (R206) established that everyone has the right to a workplace free from violence and harassment, including gender-based violence. Since then, the Global Unions have been working together to promote the ratification and implementation of these instruments.
Today, June 25, Convention 190 officially comes into force, and the IUF, along with PSI, ITUC, ITF, EI, IFJ, IndustriALL, IDWF, UNI Global Union, and BWI are pleased to announce the publication of a free training toolkit on ILO C190 and R206, including both a facilitator guide (available in English, French, Spanish) and an activities workbook (available in English, French, Spanish).
- The toolkit is primarily aimed at workers’ educators and facilitators to aid in the development of training programs for trade union staff, leaders and members
- Easily adaptable, the toolkit can be used in its entirety or discrete sections can be used to plan specific trainings or to support existing programs, depending on local needs
- The toolkit is an evolving document, and the IUF welcomes your feedback in order to continually improve our training materials
IUF General Secretary Sue Longley stated, “The adoption of the Convention and its Recommendation 206 was an important victory for the labour movement. We now need to take them into workplaces, into our training activities and into our negotiations. Violence, harassment and bullying happen in all sectors and all walks of life. The joint toolkit underlines our commitment to work together to eliminate them in workplaces and to support those who are subject to domestic violence.”
