Over a thousand workers gathered recently in Bologna to denounce the deadlock in negotiations over national sectoral agreements and to demand progress. The protest was organized by the IUF’s Italian affiliates Filcams-Cgil, Fisascat-Cisl, and Uiltucs-Uil.
- More than 7 million Italian workers, including workers in the tourism sector, await the renewal of their national sectoral agreements which expired more than three years ago on average
- The unions’ demands include a pay rise as well as improvements in working conditions including new regulations on remote work, gender equality, and occupational safety and health
Fabrizio Russo, General Secretary of Filcams Cgil stated “The unions will not tolerate employers’ efforts to stall the renewal of our agreements.” “Without the renewal of the national contracts, the country’s stability is at risk,” further stated Davide Guarini, General Secretary of Fisascat Cisl. Finally, Paolo Andreani, General Secretary of Uiltucs, stressed that “sectoral collective agreements have become over time an instrument for the distribution of wealth and a key driver of economic democracy. We deserve the contract.”
