IUF Meat Division develops work plan
A coordinating group of IUF affiliates met on 26 & 27 September in San Francisco, California to develop a work plan for the IUF Meat Division.
The group endorsed the development of a global campaign to highlight the low wages, poor standards and hazardous working conditions which are the norm in the global poultry industry.
The Meat Division seeks cooperation between affiliates in reversing the trend towards outsourcing and the use of employment agencies to supply labour, and in investigating and publicizing any links between worker health and safety and food safety.
The meeting discussed the risk to worker health of pathogens that are resistant to antibiotics becoming more common in the livestock food chain and will assist affiliates with resources to lobby their governments to legislate for better protection and monitoring.
A shared web space is planned for affiliates to post their collective agreements and exchange other information.
