IUF and EFFAT Joint Statement
Geneva & Brussels, 25 February 2022

For the second day in Ukraine, bombs and shells have continued to explode in residential neighborhoods as well as in business districts across the country. Numerous deaths have already been reported, and many thousands of civilian lives remain at risk as the Russian invasion accelerates.

Serious humanitarian and economic damage have already resulted, and each day of military action compounds the devastation.

IUF and EFFAT express full sympathy, support and solidarity to the members of our affiliated organizations and to the people of Ukraine. We condemn Putin’s choice of armed aggression and insist on an immediate cessation of military intervention, withdrawal of troops from Ukraine and return to diplomacy.

Any solution to this crisis must protect democratic rights in Ukraine.

We call on the labor movement and governments in Europe and around the world to give their full support to the people of Ukraine. Russia must stop this war!

The IUF Ukraine Coordination Council statement is available in English and Russian.
