Unilever announced plans on March 25, 2021 to close its Knorr soup and sauces factory in Duppigheim, France. This announcement has been met with protests from Unilever workers and their unions.
- Some 261 workers are employed making Unilever products at Duppigheim, organized by IUF affiliates FGTA-FO, FGA-CFDT, CFTC-CSSV and CFE-CGC Agro and also French union FNAF-CGT
- On April 28, workers, their unions and supporters held a demonstration in front of the Knorr factory and then marched to the local town hall. Duppigheim and Dachstein’s mayors joined the demonstration
- An online petition has also been launched by the unions in an effort to keep the Knorr factory open; the petition has already collected more than 22,000 signatures
CFE-CGC union representative Pascal Ziegler said, “We know that Unilever has twice reversed its decisions in Germany and Italy to close a site. We hope that they will do so for the Duppigheim site. Quality soup can be made in Alsace at a fair price for Unilever.”
