As a direct result of successful local negotiations by the IUF-affiliated FNV based on the IUF-Danone Agreement on Sustainable Employment and Access to Rights, 45 long-term contract workers have moved onto permanent contracts at the Danone/Nutricia research center in the Netherlands. FNV members of the Works Council of Danone/Nutricia Research had reported excessive use of external contracts and the continued renewal of these contracts every two years. Remaining contract workers employed for specific projects will now have the same training and sick leave rights as permanent workers. Further conversions to permanent contracts will take place next year.

The FNV has thanked the IUF for its support in raising this issue with corporate management and for signing the important Sustainable Employment and Access to Rights Agreement with Danone which mandates and facilitates local negotiations aimed at limiting casual employment.
