IUF calls on Nigerian government to free kidnapped schoolgirls
Published: 28/05/2014
The IUF Executive Committee has called on the government of Nigeria to act to secure the prompt release of the more than 250 schoolgirls kidnapped by the terrorist group Boko Haram in April, and for African and international governments to provide all necessary assistance.
Over the past 5 years, Boko Haram has attacked schools and other public institutions, newspapers and United Nations facilities, causing the deaths of over 1,500 people. The group’s activities are no longer restricted to Nigeria but have become a regional problem. On May 27 the Nigerian government said it had located the abducted girls but would not attempt a rescue operation.
